About the Exchange
The Fluxx Exchange gives every US nonprofit one public profile. Funders on Fluxx see the same profile.
Where profiles come from
Every profile starts from public IRS records: the Exempt Organizations Business Master File, Publication 78, the Auto-Revocation list and Form 990 filings. The site reads them through the Fluxx Open Exchange, and each profile lists its sources with their as-of dates.
Profile levels
Every profile shows one level (what levels mean):
- Unclaimed
- Built from IRS records. Nobody at this organization has claimed it yet.
- Claimed
- Someone proved they work at this organization and keeps the profile.
- Complete
- Every field that applies is filled in, recent financials are on file, and a steward confirmed it in the last 12 months.
- Expired
- Claimed once, but nobody at the organization has confirmed it for 12 months.
Claiming a profile
Anyone who works at an organization can claim its profile with an email at the domain of the website on its IRS record. Others there can become stewards the same way, and any steward can remove one who has left. A website the stewards save on the profile doesn't change that. A removal takes effect 3 days after it starts. Stewardship lasts 12 months from a steward's last sign-in or change; once every steward has lapsed, the profile shows Expired until someone claims it again.
Editing a profile
Stewards edit the address, phone, email, website, mission and overview. The name, tax ID, IRS status and organization type come from the IRS and can't be edited. Every value shows where it came from and when, and a value the stewards changed keeps the public record beneath it.
What stewards enter is seen only by the profile's stewards until one of them chooses who else sees it: Fluxx funders, or everyone who visits the profile. Documents are never public. An Expired profile shows only the public records, to Fluxx funders too. When nobody has confirmed it for 12 months, the stewards' values come back once a steward confirms it. When every steward has lapsed, the choice goes back to the stewards only, and the next steward chooses again. Find an organization.
